snwv
snwv studies the music of the sine wave.
snwv creates music from mathematically related frequencies of sine waves. The primary instrument is a Pure Data patch of as many as 32 oscillators. The effects on the listener can vary widely.
Latest:
- There was a snwv installation (Wave Space) at the Ingenuity Festival in Cleveland, OH, from September 16, 2011, through September 18, 2011. It was located in what may have been an old restroom, on the East side of the bridge, near the W. Superior Ave./West 9th St. entrance. I used the snwv Pure-Data patch to do frequency sweeps of the room, finding resonant frequencies, and building the piece around them. (The room resonated at a fundamental of 70Hz.) A couple small, powered computer speakers (zip-tied to cinder blocks) were enough to get the air vibrating throughout the room. The piece used 16 different frequencies plus 16 modulating frequencies. It was really dusty down there.
- The first public snwv performance was at the 2011 PRFBBQ in Chicago, IL on Saturday, June 25, playing interstitial sound structures between performances.
